I have been on such a car charm kick. Now I’m always looking back through my pattern inventory to see if there are any wall hangings I can miniaturize into car charms. I wish I could shrink the Skull Trio Wall Hanging, the big sister to the Simple Skull, but you wouldn’t be able to see the road if I did, lol.

Special Notes

-The car charm is worked in rows.

-The car charm is worked from the bottom up.

-The 1st stitch of each row should be placed into the same stitch as the turning chain.

-The turning chain does not count as the 1st stitch of the row.

-The pattern is written as : # of single crochet stitches (color abbreviation), example: 8 (S) means 8 sc in Swan.

-The odd rows are the right side rows. Even rows will be the wrong side rows.

-For a cleaner and stiff backing, glue the finished project to a piece of felt before adding the fringe (optional).

Dimensions: 3 inches wide x 3.5 inches long (not including fringe)

Gauge: 18 sts x 17 rows = 2 inch square worked in single crochet.

  • Fasten off after Row 35 leaving a 3 foot tail.

Attaching the Fringe

  • To create the fringe cut 10 inch pieces of yarn in your color of choice. For this car charm I used Mushroom for the fringe.

To attach the fringe, grab 3 strands of yarn. With a crochet hook, push the hook through the far left foundation chain. Fold the 3 strands of yarn in half, looping the middle of the strands onto the crochet hook.

Fold strands through the loop.

Tighten to create the fringe.

Repeat for every other foundation chain.

Hanging the Project

To attach the project to a dowel rod or tree branch; using a yarn needle, weave the tail over the dowel/branch and back under into the 1st stitch on the top of the wall hanging.

Repeat for each stitch on top of the car charm.

Knot off and weave in your ends.

To hang the project, drill 2 small holes on either side of the branch/dowel. Thread through both holes with cotton yarn and knot off both ends. Trim the excess yarn. (Feel free to use your preferred method of hanging the project)

ENJOY!
