The Mini Fern Valley Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern
Hey Everyone!
I’m back with a new free crochet pattern! Lately I have been obsessed with plants. Plants in my house, plants in my garden, plants in my food (mostly spinach for smoothies, lol). And now the plant theme has snuck its way into my crochet pattern idea book.
I have always had an interest in plants. Every single time I go to the farmers market I always pick out a super pretty plant that I know is going to die in a week (insert facepalm emoji here). I am a terrible plant mom and I never seem to learn my lesson because I always come home with plants that I know are going to die.
I guess I’m just going to have to settle for fake plants which is exactly what inspired this new wall hanging pattern. My patterns themes seem to come in waves so definitely prepare for a few more plant inspired patterns coming your way!
Happy Crocheting!

Dowel Rod or Tree Branch
Yarn Choice
For most of my wall hanging patterns I prefer to use a thicker and tighter spun worsted weight yarn. I feel like it gives a lot more definition to the piece and details tend to stand out more. I really don’t focus too much on the texture of the yarn because I steam every single one of my wall hangings, which softens the piece and makes it more flexible and flowy. This is especially helpful for tighter crocheters. The brands I tend to gravitate the most towards are Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound, Loops & Threads Impeccable and WeCrochet Brava Worsted.

Special Notes
-The wall hanging is worked in rows.
-The wall hanging is worked from the bottom up.
-The 1st st of each row should be placed into the same stitch as the turning chain.
-The turning chain does not count as the 1st stitch of the row.
-The wall hanging is worked in single crochet.
-The pattern is written as: # of single crochet stitches (color abbreviation), example: 8 (AR) means 8 sc in the color Aran.
-The odd rows are the right side rows. Even rows will be the wrong side.
-This wall hanging is worked up using the cut and tie color changing method.

Row 49 – Row 55: 49 (AR). Ch, turn. (49)
- Fasten off after Row 55 leaving a 3 foot tail.
Attaching the Fringe
- To create the fringe, cut 12 inch pieces of yarn in Aran. You will need 3 strands to complete 1 fringe.
To attach the fringe, grab 3 strands of yarn. Use a larger crochet hook and push the hook through the far left foundation chain on the bottom of the piece. Fold the 3 strands in half and loop the middle of the strands onto the crochet hook and pull the loop of strands through the foundation chain about 2 inches.
Fold the strands through the loop
Tighten to create the fringe.
Repeat for every other foundation chain. Trim the fringe to your preferred length.
Hanging the Project
To attach the project to the dowel rod or tree branch; using a yarn needle , weave the tail over the dowel/branch and back under into the 1st stitch on the top of the wall hanging.
Repeat for each stitch on the top of the wall hanging. Knot off and weave in your ends.
To hang the project, drill 2 small holes on either side of the branch/dowel. Thread through both holes with cotton yarn and knot off both ends. Trim excess yarn. (feel free to use your preferred method of hanging the project)
Enjoy!

I love how this turned out! It’s absolutely gorgeous. The pattern was easy to follow. My tension in the beginning was too loose so the bottom is wider than the top, but I don’t mind!

I am so glad you enjoyed the pattern Lyndsay! Tension is definitely trial and error because everybody holds their yarn at different tensions but thankfully some gorgeous fringe will help shape the piece right up:)
