The Double Heart Car Charm Crochet Pattern

Can you feel it? Can you feel the love? I know I can! Mostly because I have this adorable car charm hanging in my car right now. Although this is technically a Valentine’s Day themed design you could totally spread the love all year round with this hanging on your rear view mirror.

Introducing the Double Heart Car Charm. An adorably cute little car accessory that you can make in one sitting. Which very much pleases my lazy girl soul. Well half laziness and half because a pattern that takes more than 2 hours sitting time makes my bum go numb, lol.

Materials

*1.75 mm Crochet Hook

DK Weight Yarn (yarn I used is listed below)

*Dowel Rod (cut to size)

*Yarn Needle

*Scissors

*Hand Steamer (optional)

*Stiff Felt

Yarn Choice

For this car charm I used We Crochet Animation but you can substitute any DK weight yarn of your choice.

For this pattern I used the following yarn:

-We Crochet Animation in White- approx. 20 yards

-We Crochet Animation in Blush – approx. 15 yards

-We Crochet Animation in Lilac Mist – approx. 10 yards

Stitch Key (US Terms)

Ch = Chain

St/sts = Stitch(es)

Sc = Single Crochet

Color Abbreviations

W = White

B = Blush

L = Lilac Mist

Special Notes

-The car charm is worked in rows.

-The car charm is worked from the bottom up.

-The 1st st of each row should be placed into the same stitch as the turning chain.

-The turning chain does not count as the 1st stitch of the row.

-The pattern is written as: # of single crochet stitches (color abbreviation), example: 8 (W) means 8 sc in White.

-The odd rows are the right side rows. Even rows will be the wrong side.

-For a cleaner and stiff backing glue the finished project to a piece of felt before adding the fringe. (optional)

Dimensions: 2.5 inches wide x 2.5 inches long (not including fringe)

Gauge: 18 sts x 17 rows = 2 inch square worked in single crochet.

Pattern

Begin by chaining 22 in White.

Row 1: sc in 2^nd chain from hook and in each chain across. Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 2 – Row 3: sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 4: 14 (W), 1 (B), 6 (W). Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 5: 5 (W), 3 (B), 3 (W), 1 (L), 9 (W). Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 6: 8 (W), 3 (L), 1 (W), 5 (B), 4 (W). Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 7: 3 (W), 7 (B), 4 (L), 7 (W). Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 8: 6 (W), 4 (L), 9 (B), 2 (W). Ch 1, turn. (21)

Row 9: 2 (W), 9 (B), 5 (L), 5 (W). Ch 1, turn. (21)

Fasten off after Row 21 leaving a 2 foot tail.

Attaching the Fringe

To create the fringe cut 10 inch pieces of yarn in your choice of color. For this car charm I used a mix of Blush and Lilac Mist.

To attach the fringe, grab 3 strands of yarn. With a crochet hook, push the hook through the far left foundation chain. Fold the 3 strands of yarn in half, looping the middle of the strands onto the crochet hook.

Fold strands through the loop.

Tighten to create the fringe.

Repeat for every other foundation chain alternating between colors.

Hanging the Project

To attach the project to a dowel rod or tree branch; using a yarn needle, weave the tail over the dowel/branch and back under into the 1st stitch on the top of the car charm.

Repeat for each stitch on the top of the car charm.

Knot off and weave in ends.

To hang the project, drill 2 small holes on either side of the branch/dowel. Thread through both holes with cotton yarn and knot off both ends. Trim the excess yarn. (Feel free to use your preferred method of hanging the project)
